Towing presents a set of challenges on the road. From safety concerns to decreased efficiency, towing can detract from the joy of the journey. The increasing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in recent years has added a layer of complexity, introducing issues related to towing capability, charging logistics, and range anxiety.

When towing a travel trailer with electric vehicles, the additional weight and drag significantly increase your energy consumption and thus impact your vehicle’s range, which means more money and time spent on charging and the added stress of finding a charging spot.

Drag, lift, headwinds, crosswinds. How the air goes around the front corners and then the back corner. How the crosswinds attack your sidewalls and go over your roof. These are all elements of aerodynamics. How the air flows impacts not just your driving efficiency but also your towing stability.

Pebble’s approach to tackling these challenges involves both design and technology. The streamlined design of the Pebble Flow features rounded edges and smooth surfaces complemented by a patented active aero system. The system features a telescoping aero component at the trailer’s front which automatically elevates itself at high speeds and lowers when parked. It redirects airflow from the tow vehicle to avoid direct impact on the flat front window, thereby decreasing drag and improving the overall towing stability. We’ve spent countless hours refining the design through advanced computational simulations. We want the air to come in nicely, and leave gracefully, in all directions. 

The result – 300% as aerodynamic as a conventional travel trailer. The impact of these enhancements is substantial. 

Towing should be safe and effortless, whether towing with an SUV, a pick-up truck, a gas vehicle or an EV. 

While enhancing aerodynamics boosts towing stability and efficiency, we’ve gone a step further to reduce the power required by the tow vehicle, thereby extending your range. The Pebble Flow with Magic Pack is equipped with a dual-motor Active Propulsion Assist System, powered by two electric motors. The industry-first system intelligently supplies the optimal amount of torque, making you almost forget you’re pulling a load. Using the Pebble App, you can pre-set your desired state of charge for when you arrive at your destination, allowing the system to intelligently optimize the propulsion assist in real-time. Alternatively, you have the flexibility to manually activate or deactivate the system at any time. Stefan puts it compellingly, “The transition from Easy Tow off to Easy Tow on is so profound, it becomes addictive”. 


Easy Tow drastically lowers the energy and torque demands on the tow vehicle, alleviating range concerns for EV drivers and improving fuel efficiency for those with gas-powered vehicles.

The ease doesn’t end with propulsion assist. Setting the Pebble Flow apart from conventional travel trailers, it is equipped with three braking systems: automotive friction brakes for reliable stopping power, parking brakes eliminating the need for wheel chocks and regenerative braking, mirroring the driving experience of an electric vehicle. The regenerative braking system not only ensures smooth and effective deceleration but also instills confidence during descents, as it actively slows the vehicle while simultaneously recharging Pebble Flow’s battery. This harmonious blend of technology ensures that drivers experience superior stopping behavior and peace of mind while towing, especially when navigating down steep mountainous terrain.

Since unveiling the Pebble Flow last year, continuous enhancements have been made to both hardware and software. Through rigorous testing with popular tow vehicle options, including all-electric ones like the Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian R1S, we’ve observed encouraging outcomes.

EV efficiency is commonly measured in miles per kilowatt-hour (miles per kWh). This metric indicates how many miles an EV can travel on one kilowatt-hour of electricity; therefore, higher figures mean better efficiency. When towing, the efficiency of EVs decreases dramatically due to air resistance and weight. 

According to feedback from Rivian owners in the Pebble Community, towing a 5,500 lbs travel trailer with a Rivian R1S typically results in an efficiency of 0.8 to 1.2 miles per kWh. 

The preliminary data reported by the R1S towing a 6,200 lbs Pebble Flow engineering prototype however show that at a constant speed of 55 mph, the average efficiency stands at 1.4 miles per kWh without active propulsion assist. This increases to 1.8 miles per kWh when the active propulsion assist system is activated. While the initial results are promising, we at Pebble are committed to further testing and enhancing performance ahead of production commencement later this year.

Pebble, a California-based startup bringing advanced technology to the recreational vehicle (RV) industry, today announced it has selected the NVIDIA DRIVE Orin system-on-a-chip to power its flagship product, the Pebble Flow electric travel trailer, with production starting before the end of 2024.

Pebble’s mission is to bring ease and accessibility to the RV industry by integrating technology that will automate the hardest parts of RVing, reimagining the user experience from the ground up. The Pebble Flow will leverage the power of NVIDIA DRIVE Orin to power these technology integrations and semi-autonomous capabilities, most notably, the Magic Hitch feature, which enables automatic hitching of the travel trailer to the towing vehicle. NVIDIA DRIVE Orin will power a full robotic stack, including perception, planning and control, to make this feature possible. The collaboration represents the first time the RV market will see this level of computing power.

Integrating NVIDIA’s cutting-edge compute power will allow Pebble to develop more features targeting the pain points RV users have struggled with for decades, including parking, hitching and refueling. It will also enable the Pebble Flow to serve as a connected smart home through over-the-air software updates, which will enhance existing and future features through continued innovation for a “tech-first” RV experience.

SUNNYVALE, CA — (June 13th, 2023) — Today, Pebble, a California-based startup, comes out of stealth with its plans to develop a hassle-free electric RV experience designed for a new way to live, work and explore. The company has raised $13.6M from Lightspeed, Vision+ and UpHonest Capital to bring innovation to the RV industry that has seen few technological advancements in the past 50 years.

For many Americans, RVing is no longer a vacation — it’s a lifestyle. The RV Industry Association reports that two out of five new buyers purchased their RV because they wanted a place to stay and explore the outdoors while still having access to their work. However, traditional RVs and travel trailers come with a set of problems, including insufficient energy storage, outdated technology and design, poor towing experience, high fuel costs, constant maintenance and safety issues. As the national conversation shifts towards renewable energy and younger generations pledge to make more eco-friendly choices, there is a rising demand for an RV that is sustainable, user-friendly, and supports the growing work-from-anywhere generation.

Pebble was born to remove the hassles that RVers have struggled with for decades and make it more accessible to achieve a lighter and freer lifestyle. Never before seen in the RV industry, Pebble integrates some of the most advanced automotive and electric vehicle technology available today to streamline the user experience. The interior is designed as a fully furnished, eco-friendly living space equipped with everything users need to work, sleep, explore and relax comfortably. It’s powered by renewable energy sources with an energy capacity that allows users to live off-grid for up to seven days.

“Pebble was developed to create a hassle-free way to live, work and explore,” said Bingrui Yang, CEO and founder of Pebble. “Consumers have been stuck with the same RV experience for decades. A lot of people want to get into such a lifestyle of freedom but are turned off by the pain points in today’s products. At Pebble, we are automating the hardest parts of the RV experience with the same technologies that power the most advanced automotive innovations, making the whole experience simply effortless and magical. Pebble’s mission has attracted an expert team of executives, advisors, engineers, and designers. As the founder, Yang brings dual experience in automotive and consumer electronics to his vision of defining a new category in electric RVing. He holds a deep understanding of cutting-edge automotive technology, having led hardware development for autonomous vehicle companies Cruise, backed by General Motors, and Zoox, backed by Amazon. Prior, he had a 9-year tenure at Apple leading iPhone development and creating the magical iPhone experience that brings surprise and delight to customers.

Yang is joined by Chief Technology Officer Stefan Solyom, who brings over 20 years of experience in the automotive and tech industries. Solyom was a founding member of the Tesla Autopilot team and spent 7 years at Apple and 10 years at Volvo Cars as a top technical leader focused on safety and autonomous systems. Alongside Yang and Solyom, the rest of the Pebble team brings additional expertise from Cruise, Lucid Motors and other leading technology and automotive companies.

There are bumps in every part of the journey that you have to overcome in order to access the good part of RVing — freedom. That’s why I’m building Pebble — an entirely new way to work, live, explore, and experience life on the road. We will use technology to strip away these hassles so that more people will feel comfortable RVing and our customers can focus on the magic of the RVing experience: exploring, relaxing, and making memories.

Traditional RV models, and even emerging ones, come with a host of hassles: insufficient energy storage, outdated tech and designs, poor towing experience, high fuel costs, and constant maintenance and safety issues, to name a few. For many people, these hassles will be too intimidating and hold them back from taking on RVing. I don’t blame them.

So, Pebble was born to remove the inconveniences that RVers have dealt with for decades and introduce an all-electric and hassle-free RV experience.

The fact that our product is 100% electric was a no-brainer. We’re proud to do our part in the move towards a more sustainable future, but more so, we want to make RVing accessible to more people by automating the most challenging aspects of the RV experience.
