When we talk about Pebble owners, we often describe them as curious explorers — people who see travel not just as escape, but as a lifestyle. Few embody that better than Jared, one of the first Pebble Flow owners in California. He’s an early EV adopter, a weekend adventurer, and a dad who wanted to make family camping easier and more enjoyable.
I spoke with Jared from his home in Northern California to talk about his experience owning one of the very first Pebble Flow travel trailers. Our conversation ranged from his earliest camping memories to how Pebble’s smart, electric design is redefining what “weekend warrior” means.
Getting Started
Pebble: Jared, how are you? Jared: Doing great, thanks! Excited to talk about the Pebble. Pebble: Thanks for doing this. Let’s start simple — tell us where you live and how long you’ve been there. Jared: I’m in Northern California, and I’ve lived here for about 18 years. We love it — close to nature, but not far from the city.
Finding the Joy of Camping
Pebble: Tell me about your first camping experience. What got you hooked? Jared: I moved around a lot as a kid. My dad was in the Air Force, so we lived all over — Illinois, Minnesota, and Hawaii. My earliest memories of camping were probably Cub Scouts and school trips. We’d go up near the Boundary Waters in northern Minnesota — fishing, canoeing, hiking, just being outdoors. Later, as an adult, I did desert camping in Arizona, which is a totally different experience. When the pandemic hit, my wife and I wanted a way to travel safely and independently. Having our own kitchen, bathroom, and space felt essential. That’s what brought us back to RVing.

From Airstream to Electric
Pebble: What did you start out with? Jared: We first looked at the InTech Sol, which I think of as the “spiritual cousin” of Pebble — modern, compact, but it had build and delivery issues during the pandemic. We ended up going with an Airstream Flying Cloud 27 and a Ford F-250 diesel to tow it. That setup was great for a while — beautiful trailer, high quality, but honestly, we hated having the big diesel truck when we weren’t camping. So we switched to a Rivian. I’ve owned EVs since 2015 — Tesla Model S, others — so going electric made sense. But towing the Airstream with the Rivian was tough on range, and charging infrastructure wasn’t always reliable. That’s when I started looking for something more efficient, something made for this new EV world. Pebble checked all the boxes.
Discovering Pebble
Pebble: How did you first hear about Pebble? Jared: Probably social media or early online coverage. Then YouTube reviewers started popping up. But the real turning point was Pebble’s Community Day last December — that’s when I met the team, saw the product up close, and felt confident this was the right direction. Pebble: Did Discord play a role? Jared: I was already on Discord from the Rivian community, so when Pebble launched theirs, I joined. It didn’t influence my buying decision, but it’s been great for connecting with other owners and sharing tips.

Choosing the Pebble Flow
Pebble: What other options were you looking at before committing? Jared: We considered upgrading our Airstream — maybe one of their special editions — but they didn’t offer much beyond new finishes. We looked at Lightship too, but I didn’t love the pop-up design. Pebble’s layout felt more traditional and practical. For our family — my wife, our six-year-old son, and me — the split layout works perfectly. He sleeps up front, and we have the back. No wall between us, but enough space to feel separate. Pebble: What were your top three reasons for choosing Pebble? Jared: Battery and Solar: We wanted real off-grid capability — to run the AC, cook, and stay comfortable without hookups. Electric Platform: Moving away from diesel entirely was a big goal. Automation: Magic Hitch, Easy Tow, InstaCamp — I wasn’t shopping for those features, but once I saw how much time they saved, they became essential. We compared upgrading our Airstream’s power system — which would have cost tens of thousands — versus buying something purpose-built like Pebble. It just made sense.
Living with Pebble
Pebble: Do you still have the Airstream? Jared: We do, but it’s on the market. We tried selling it ourselves, then hired a broker. The market for luxury RVs is slow right now, but we’ll get there. Pebble: And how’s the Pebble experience so far? Has it met expectations? Jared: Absolutely. The technology has been more reliable than I expected, especially for a first-generation product. Sure, there have been some cosmetic things — a cabinet alignment issue here, a mark on the Room Flip fabric — but nothing major. What stands out is your customer service. Josh and the whole team — they’ve been incredibly responsive, even on weekends and holidays. That level of support makes you feel part of something bigger.

Pickup and Delivery
Pebble: Tell me about the pickup experience at Pebble HQ. Jared: It was great. The traffic getting there wasn’t (laughs), but the handoff was smooth. Financing was painless, and the walkthrough was thorough. Josh customized it to my knowledge level. The only thing I wish we spent more time on was the toilet system — my first attempt using it didn’t go well, probably user error. A bit more education or a troubleshooting guide would help new owners. But the overall delivery felt like white-glove service — personal, not rushed. It reminded me of picking up my first Tesla back in 2015, when they still took time to make it special.
On the Road
Pebble: How many trips have you taken so far? Jared: Two longer weekend trips — both boondocking — and plenty of local drives and demos. We’re mostly weekend warriors, doing one big summer trip and one big fall trip each year. Next up: Moab, Utah, and eventually the Tetons or Yellowstone. My wife’s a teacher, so we plan around her breaks. For us, the Pebble makes spontaneous weekend trips easy — fewer steps, faster setup, and less to worry about. Living the Experience Pebble: How’s the Pebble app working for you? Jared: Surprisingly solid. It’s intuitive and stable. My biggest feedback is the PDF manual — scrolling 100 pages to find a single answer isn’t ideal. A searchable, hyperlinked manual would help. I’d also love a mobile version of the app. Holding the iPad while wearing gloves during Auto Dump wasn’t ideal. And eventually, voice commands like “Hey Siri, AutoDump” would be amazing. But overall, it’s impressive. I love how much control I have — energy management, leveling, towing, everything.
Features and Favorites
Pebble: Anything you wish Pebble had? Jared: Blackout curtains! Our son goes to bed early, and while the smart glass is great for privacy, it doesn’t block light completely. The team has been responsive, though — we got magnetic curtains for the front, which help a lot. (* Blackout curtains are now available via the Pebble website) I also really appreciate the bed and lounge configuration. The bed is smaller than our Airstream’s but far more comfortable. Lounge mode is our favorite — the three of us can sprawl out, watch a movie on the projector, or play board games. It’s cozy and social, something our old RV never managed. And the kitchen layout is outstanding. The galley feels more spacious than our Airstream, even if it isn’t, and the sink and fridge are larger. Our old fridge struggled over 100°F; Pebble’s stays cold no matter what. That alone is worth a lot to us.

Ease and Freedom
Pebble: You mentioned setup is faster. How much easier is it really? Jared: Night and day. I call it “parallel camping.” My wife gets our son and the dog settled in the Rivian while I handle the Pebble. No waiting, no shouting directions. Magic Hitch and InstaCamp let us work simultaneously, not sequentially. It cuts setup time in half and eliminates the stress. Leaving quietly in the morning is another perk — no diesel engine noise, no power drills for stabilizers. It’s peaceful, which other campers appreciate too.
What He Tells Curious Campers
Pebble: If someone walks up at a campground and asks, “What is this thing?” — what do you tell them? Jared: I usually say, “Next-gen mobility: effortless setup, electric freedom, quiet comfort — go more, stress less.” That sums it up. It’s not just an RV; it’s a platform for freedom. You don’t have to do the manual labor — leveling, dumping, hitching — that used to make camping feel like work. Pebble lets you focus on the experience.
Advice for Future Owners
Pebble: And what would you tell someone considering buying a Pebble Flow? Jared: I’d say it’s like the early days of EVs — exciting, evolving, and backed by passionate engineers who care about customer experience. Not every detail is perfect yet, but you can see where it’s headed. For families like ours or empty nesters who want simplicity, it’s a game-changer. It removes the intimidation factor from RVing. My parents have always said, “We’d never deal with towing or dumping.” Now they see how easy Pebble is, and they’re reconsidering. That’s powerful. Looking Ahead Pebble: What’s next for you and your Pebble? Jared: We’ll do our big fall trip around Thanksgiving — Monterey, Paso Robles, then down to Santa Barbara or San Diego. It’s become a tradition. We don’t miss the oven — the 4-in-1 works great. We’ll probably grill or smoke outside for the holiday meal. Long term, I could even see using the Pebble as a mobile office. The air conditioning is quiet, the workspace is comfortable, and with better Starlink integration, it could be perfect for remote workdays. That kind of flexibility is huge.

Final Thoughts
Pebble: Last question — what’s the one thing you always bring with you? Jared: Board games. Every trip, we pack games, books, and an iPad. The Pebble is perfect for family downtime — we play, watch highlights, have coffee. It’s become our happy place. Pebble: Anything else you’d like to share? Jared: Just that the Pebble makes us want to get out more. With our Airstream, camping felt like a project. Now it feels like freedom. There’s less to haul, less to set up, and fewer reasons to say no to a weekend away.
A New Kind of RV Owner
Jared’s story reflects a shift we’re seeing across the Pebble community — travelers who want the joy of the outdoors without the hassle of traditional RV life. For them, Pebble isn’t just a product. It’s a mindset: clean energy, smart technology, and time reclaimed.
As Jared put it best:
“Pebble makes us want to go out more with less stuff and fewer steps.”
That’s the future of travel — and it’s already parked in his driveway.
